SSRS - How to implement Row Grouping in the report

1.     Background

The purpose of this article is to describe a way of implementing a row group for detail data.

2.     Step by Step procedure to implement Row grouping in the report:

·         Below is the sample report in which we will implement Row Group for Fiscal Year:

·         For creating a row group in the report, we will utilize the Grouping Pane available in the report designer. Go to the Row Groups in Grouping pane, Right click on the details then click on Add Group then Parent Group

·         Select the field by which we want to group the data. Here we want to group the data by Fiscal Year. Click ok.

·         Once we click ok then it will add one additional column for your group by field e.g Fiscal Year.

Here we can see that report is showing two columns for Fiscal Year in the report.

·         Now delete the old column from the tablix

·         Now run the report and see whether report is showing data which is grouped by Fiscal Year or not.

3.     Conclusion
By using the above steps, we can create Row Grouping in the report.
